May your home speak words of abundance

Do the decorations in your home represent who you are?

No, seriously, do the items that you choose to decorate your home in truly speak to who you are as a wife, mother, sister, daughter, friend, Christ follower, etc.?

I mean, y’all, I love Hobby Lobby I wish I could bring the entire store home and decorate my house from top to bottom, inside and out. But something that I have become painfully aware of is how much I choose things without giving it thought as to if it’s truly representative of our family and our values. I know that sounds silly, but I don’t want people to come into our house, our home, and see things that “shock” them. I want them to come in and feel confident that the words written on the walls and the pictures shared are real and transparent.

In our home let love abide and bless those who step inside

This is the latest addition to our home, and it’s the whole reason that I started to reflect on the different items within our home. We had been wanting to fill an empty space on our wall and this immediately spoke to me. When Dustin and I first got married, we wanted to have “that house” where everyone would gather. We prayed that our lives would be filled with love and support and that fellowship would be a central pillar in our home.

The words are so simple, but they have great weight to us because it’s honestly something we pray for as a family. I pray that as people come in and we gather together that they see the love within our household. I pray that as people leave, they feel as though we’ve poured into them and shared our lives with them.

I pray this so fervently.

And as I look around each night, I want to make sure I’m praying fervently for the other decorations that surround me. For the family picture that says, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). For the wooden decor that reads, “Think deeply, Speak gently, Love much, Laugh a lot, Work hard, Give freely, and Be kind.” For the wooden decor that says, “Every love story is beautiful but ours is my favorite.”

It sounds silly, but I pray that each of these speaks to our lives and our family. I pray that each of these are truly a part of our story. I pray that they’re please to the Lord and that they point directly to Him. I pray that we are intentional with all of it…
